After seeing this on ESPN and some of the discussions about it, I have one thought. Calhoun has been successful both financially and in terms of his basketball record. Perhaps if other government jobs paid better and attracted better talent, we wouldn't have the problems that we have today. |

It's nice to see the Detroit Tiger's general manager Dave Dombrowski at work. I can see what he's doing by the moves that he's making. I remember reading that Guillen was probably being moved into left field so that Inge can move to third base. They traded for a catcher to replace Inge (and Pudge who was traded during the season). So they had three everyday outfielders meaning that they could trade an outfielder to get a pitcher to fill their pitching rotation. It all makes sense and it's nice to see.
This is compared to the recent drafts, trades, and signings of another team which will remain as nameless as they are winless. Notice I didn't say what sport they play, or where they play, or really anything else about them. Yup, that team is still that winless... |

I am wondering if I have any friends on here that purchase stock photography. I have started to create a stock photography portfolio. You can find it at http://www.istockphoto.com/diablose. It's pretty small right now, but I'm planning on adding some more photos to it. If you are planning on buying stock, let me know what you're looking for and if it's something I have available to me, I'll work on adding it to my portfolio.
I'm also looking for people willing to stay in front of my camera and sign a model release. (http://www.istockphoto.com/docs/modelrelease.pdf) If you would like to help me out let me know. You can also check out my Facebook group: http://www.facebook.com/groups.php?ref=sb#/group.php?gid=11346529500 |

A photo list article has listed Mohinder Suresh as one of the characters on television that should be written out of their shows in order to improve the quality of those shows. Comments? |
| » Dating advice for women |
I have Yahoo! as my homepage. I have an email account no Yahoo! and Yahoo! Sports is where I usually look to find out what's going on with my teams. When I'm there, I tend to glance at the articles before I go wherever I was planning on going.
Today there was an article for women about guys. It said that Guys break down into four typess and how to make a relationship work depends on what type of guy he is. Since it's nice to know what women think, I'm wondering how many of you agree with this article and if you do, what type of guy you think I am.
Guys can comment also, but you'll understand if I don't care nearly as much about what you think.

I got an email recently. Do people actually fall for these? This is a new one for me though, or maybe just the first time I've bothered to read it. Is there a place where I can forward this stuff to that will actually do some good?

Fact Checking Article
It basically says that, just like any other politician, Obama is promising more than he will be able to deliver. He's also making assumptions that many people don't agree with. Basically, he's playing politics. So, exactly what you would expect.

In an article about hot-button social issues on state ballots, I found this:
"Among scores of local ballot questions, one of the most provocative is in San Francisco, where Proposition K would decriminalize prostitution. Proponents say it would free up millions of dollars spent annually by police arresting prostitutes; opponents — including the mayor and police department — say it would embolden pimps and hamper the fight against sex trafficking."

Anyone want to go with me to Epsilon Eridani in about a hundred years? We should be able to live that long with artificial hearts and whatever else science does to improve medicine. Unless of course North Korea starts WWIII

I was looking up old friends when I found this in the "Oceana's Herald-Journal". (I had to grab a cached version because they tried to make me pay to see this. Silly people not knowing that anything that was posted in the open on the internet stays in the open.)
"Engagements 10-9-08 Moran/Fessenden
Laura and Patrick Moran of Northville announce the engagement of their daughter Angela Moran of Rochester, Minn. to Ernie Fessenden, also of Rochester. He is the son of Cheryl and Darrell Fessenden of Shelby and is a Shelby High School graduate.
The bride-to-be has a bachelors degree in chemistry and chemical engineering from Michigan Tech and is employed at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. The groom-elect has a masters degree in computer science with a minor in mathematics from Michigan Tech.
A summer 2009 wedding is planned."

| » Fair Tax |
I've been thinking a lot about tax policy lately. Both presidential candidates tax policies have major flaws in them. But when I really think about it, it's not their plans that have the major flaws it's our current tax system. We tax people when they do the things that we want them to do (work for a living and save money) and we let them do what we don't want them to do as much tax free (spending the money they have and whatever money they can borrow). If we want to change how people behave, we have to change that.
Which brings me to the Fair Tax. I've heard of it and have a basic idea of what it does. Has anyone looked more into it than that? Any thoughts?

| » Some People Just Hate Change. |
I've noticed this trend on Flickr and Facebook. I believe that it's true for all sites, but the same social networking that draws people to these sites also gives them the easiest method to band together and voice their displeasure. No matter what the change is, no matter what merits these changes have, there will always be a large percentage of people that hate the change. Some people just hate change of any kind. I've also noticed that these sites seem to still grow in popularity despite these people. Maybe these sites still manage to give the majority what they want.

| » The Dark Side of Business |
There is a Dark Side to business. There is a practice of convincing people they need something from that business and no one else. Some of these things you actually do need, but you can find elsewhere. Some of these things you can use, but you've never heard of and have lived without for your entire life. Some of these things you have no use for at all. This is a standard practice of most if not all businesses. It even has fancy titles like Sales and Marketing.
This Dark Side is not limited to business. It seems that it is also common in politics. Politicians tell you that you need them. There are things that can be done in the office that they are running for, but only they can accomplish them. They tell you that they can only get into that office with your support, your vote, and if you have it, your money. When they have your money, they use it to spread there message to an even wider audience or to hammer that audience with more frequent repetition of their message.
Obama is now breaking records in his fund raising. I suspect that Obama or someone high in his campaign is a Sith Lord...

| » That's slightly disturbing. |
There was a recent survey testing Americans' knowledge of the current Political landscape.
"The survey, conducted between April 30 and June 1 by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press, measured the political knowledge of 3,612 U.S. adults. Participants were asked to name the controlling party of the U.S. House of Representatives, the U.S. secretary of state and Great Britain's prime minister."
Of course, since it was news worthy, it means that Americans did very badly. Now I'm pretty bad with names, so I don't really mind that the percentages of the secretary of state and Great Britain's prime minister were low.
The fact that the Dems hold the House on the other hand... We are going to have a major election within a month that will change the landscape of American politics for at least four or more years. We won't even be able to make minor changes to it for another two years. And there are a large percentage of Americans that the Dems control the House.
Now this was done in the late spring, months before the election. I hope that many Americans do more research before election day or those that don't know what's going on don't vote. I think this survey would be more informative if it was done among voters on election day to find out if they understand what's going on when they are voting.
This survey also broke down the media habits of those that took the survey. A couple of amusing side notes, Colbert Report viewers knew more than Daily Show viewers.
"Colbert Report: 73 percent, 65 percent, 49 percent Daily Show: 65 percent, 48 percent, 36 percent"
The percentages are the percentage of correct answers to each of the three questions, in the order that they were listed in the beginning of the article.
Another note, National Enquirer readers have a very loose grasp on reality.
"National Enquirer: 44 percent, 32 percent, 22 percent"

| » Hunting down referrals |
One of the nice new features that Flickr has added allows users to see what sites are linking to theirs. It also tells what search terms are used. I took a closer look at this today. I found out that dance, dancing, dip, and aerials are all popular search terms that link to my photos. Apparently a search of "michigan tech broomball" on images.google.com will also find its way to one of my pictures. And of course there was the random sites that I look at and have no idea where or how they link back to me such as:
http://reader.livedoor.com/reader/ http://starnews.gr/?&blogid=1&archive=2006-8-2 http://rojo.com/
It was kind of nice to go to this last site and see exactly where my photo was and how it linked back to me.
